About Whitman Walker Health
Whitman-Walker Health is a nonprofit community health center. This center immediately stood out to me because they specialize in HIV/AIDS care and LGBTQ+ healthcare. They first started out in 1978, so they're a fairly new organization, but they've done a lot in that short time. They treat substance abuse disorders and behavioral health or mental health disorders and offer other care as well. You'll find them located in Washington, DC.
HIV/STI Care in the Nation's Capital
Let’s address substance misuse first. I noticed that they offer individual therapy and group psychotherapy, as well as psychiatry. They also offer primary medical care, including women's health, transgender healthcare, and pediatric care. Their HIV/STI prevention and care program offers prevention methods and testing, as well as treatment for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
I also found that they offer dental health and legal services. And if you need medication assisted treatment (MAT), you can find that here as well. They use prescriptions like Suboxone to lessen your withdrawal symptoms and uncomfortable cravings. It's also important to note that their legal services are provided free of charge.
