About Turning Point Foundation
Turning Point Foundation is a faith-based, 90-day, 28-bed residential program designed to help men overcome substance use disorders (SUD) in Thorsby, Alabama. As it is a Christian program, it prioritizes faith as a core pillar needed to overcome addiction while also incorporating the 12 Step method. Because it takes an abstinence approach to ending addiction, this program is best reserved for someone who has either a mild addiction or has already successfully completed a detox or medication assisted treatment (MAT) program elsewhere.
Turning Point services are made possible through donations. The facility offers partial scholarships if needed.
Recovery Through Structure
One of the core features of their program is to give your day structure as a means of occupying your mind and giving you purpose. This three-month program has a very specific daily schedule with time accounted for between 6:00 AM and dinner. While Monday through Friday are more rigid with four hours of classwork each morning, Saturdays are more flexible. Daily morning and afternoon chores, as well as dedicated time for devotion are key hallmarks of this program.
Centered on Faith
Turning Point is recognized by the Association of Christian Recovery Ministries (ACRM) which means faith, and specifically Christianity, are woven frequently into the recovery program. Prayer as well as regular attendance of Sunday services are all part of the program.
Anonymous Healing with The Watchmen
While they work to remove the stigma around SUD while acknowledging the power of faith, the organization understands that some people may want to maintain their anonymity. Recovery at Turning Point prioritizes treating the core of a man rather than worrying about who he is. This program is titled “The Watchmen” and borrows its name from Scripture.
It’s an interesting concept because each participant is given an alias that’s posted on a nameplate and put on each person’s bed. This gives them the opportunity to submit prayer requests to Turning Point prayer partners anonymously and respects their dignity.
