Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers (TROSA) is an award-winning and peer-driven addiction treatment program serving the community of Durham, North Carolina. This is an innovative multi-year residential program that provides housing, health services, mentorship, and counseling. The goal is for residents to heal from addiction and live better lives.
Cost-Free Treatment Program
TROSA is free of charge to residents. Services are provided by peer leaders, program graduates, and certified treatment professionals. TROSA has a strong mentorship component and also uses cognitive behavioral therapy.
Programming is considered to be from a community-based approach, offering residents the chance to train as North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialists. It’s important to note that TROSA is not a medical facility but does provide contracted psychiatric services.
Skills-Based Classes to Empower Residents
While enrolled in residential treatment, you’ll receive individual and group counseling and psychoeducational workshops. In sessions, you’ll learn valuable skills like parenting, building healthy relationships, and anger management.
Education plays a key role in this program. After six months, if you don’t have a high school degree or GED, you’ll take a class to get one. After one year in the program you can apply to take college courses. Social enterprises on campus including a thrift store, moving and storage, and lawn care will give you valuable vocational skills.
To apply to TROSA, call their admissions department and make an appointment for an interview. The interview generally lasts for 45 minutes. When you are admitted you’ll have limited contact with family and loved ones while you get oriented to your structured treatment schedule.
