About Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch
The Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch in Morrow, Arkansas, provides a Christ-centered recovery environment in the Arkansas Ozarks for teen boys ages 14 to 17. They work with most insurance companies and can determine policy coverage and out of pocket expenses for the family.
Substance Use Treatment for Teen Boys
The ranch is CARF accredited, is LegitScript certified, and is certified by the Arkansas Department of Human Services. They specialize in treatment for Adderall, alcohol, ecstasy, oxy, spice, Vicodin, Xanax, cannabis, Ritalin, cocaine, k2, prescription drugs, injection drugs, psychedelics, painkillers and sedatives use. Teens are also treated for associated risks such as sexual risk, violence, mental health and suicide risk.
The teen is evaluated for underlying causes leading to substance use. They are assessed for co-occurring disorders (when the teen also has a mental health diagnosis). If needed the teen will undergo detoxification treatment, followed by stabilization, addiction counseling and learning healthy coping strategies. The six core areas of healing at the ranch are clinical therapy, individualized academics, outdoor adventure, equine therapy, family involvement and spiritual growth.
When Do Teens Need Residential Treatment?
There are several reasons a teen may need residential treatment instead of outpatient treatment. If outpatient treatment has not proven successful, residential treatment should be the next step. Another reason would be if substance use is severely impacting social, academic or occupational functioning.
A co-occurring diagnosis also requires more intensive treatment. Because the disorders are related to each other they need to be treated concurrently, which increases the complexity of treatment. If there is an immediate risk of danger to the teen or anyone around them, legal issues, or school expulsion issues because of their substance use, residential treatment will keep everyone safe.
Treatment for Co-Occurring Mental Health Disorders
Several common disorders the ranch treats are post traumatic stress disorder, emerging personality disorders, reactive attachment disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, conduct disorder, and disruptive mood dysregulation disorder. Other diagnosis and behaviors treated by the ranch include anxiety, suicidal behaviors, grief, abuse and neglect, self harm, impulse control, video game addiction, and depression and major depressive episodes.
