About Sober Living America
Sober Living America (SLA) in Atlanta, Georgia, offers faith based addiction recovery services for adult men and women in a sober living environment. Residents are recovering from substance use disorders like alcohol, opioids, and methamphetamines.. Same-day admission is available, and no upfront funds are required to enter the program, although eventually, you’ll have a monthly fee to pay.
A Long History of Helping the Community
SLA started in 1994 when the founder, Jim deVarennes, realized that too many people who needed help were being told no. He believes money should never be the reason someone is turned away when they’re making the effort to get sober.
From the very beginning, his goal was simple. He wanted to help people find their way through the 12 Steps and build a relationship with God. What started small has now grown into one of the biggest sober living communities in the country.
How Their Faith Based Recovery Program Works
The foundation of recovery here is the 12-Step program combined with Christian teachings. Every resident participates in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings onsite and offsite. Atlanta has a large and active recovery community with hundreds of 12-Step meetings each week across the metro area.
Licensed counselors are on staff and use proven addiction treatment methods, including individual and group counseling sessions. There’s also a significant focus on addiction education and relapse prevention.
Transitional Housing and Peer Support
You’ll live in apartment-style homes where you’ll share spaces with others who are working on sobriety. This peer-to-peer environment creates a strong support system where individuals help each other stay accountable.
Working Toward Employment
SLA partners with local staffing agencies to help residents find immediate employment. You’ll have career advocates to help you get ready to interview and be ready to work. You won’t need a car either. They provide transportation to work, 12-Step meetings and church services.
